Trinity (Pigeon Point, III+)

Pigeon point run is 5.5 mile class III with one IV-. It's safe and great family run. Highway 299 runs along this river and you can quit wherever if you want. At the take out, there are some outfitters providing commercial rafting trips and also we can rent rafts ($80 a day, see photo below) or IK (single IK $33, double $45), by very reasonalble prices from them. In 2004, I took my family to this run in Aug and Sep and we camped at the takeout. In Aug, just my family went and paid for commercial shuttle ($10). In Sep, we joined Alan's fimily trip.
More info is available at Trinity River below Pigeon Point

In our Sep trip, we rented two single IKs for my wife Ayako and my daughter Yuriko (10 years old) and one double IK for my son Kenya (7 years old) and myself. Before this run, Yuriko had done class II only once and she tried class III here for the first time. Flow was 1,200 cfs.

Ayako and Yuriko were nervous in the begining.

Ayako did it.

Yuriko did it,too. Great!!! Alan always encouraged Yuriko from behind her.

Ayako was paddling hard. Her muscle of her arms was paiful in the evening.

Yuriko. Her boat flop at this drop. However, she was not scared of swimming at all, bur rather enjoyed paddling.

Yuriko was padding hard. She did it. At a different rapid, 1,200 cfs made very high wave and it let Yuriko's IK stand vertical perfectly and flip backward. Yuriko also swam at Hell Hole (see below) but only three times a day. Great!!!

Ayako at Hell hole in Aug. This rapid was class IV- at 500 cfsin Aug but maybe class IV at 1,200 cfs in Sep. She did both perfectly!! Amazing! because she had paddled only for ~5 times before she was pregnant 11 years ago .

Second day of our Aug trip at Hell hole. We three swam. I thank people who rescued us. Everyone is photographed here and can see his/her photo for free when trip is done. First picture on CD was $15. $10 was for additional.

First day in Aug trip, we rented a raft. Kids are hiding in the front cockpit of the boat.

Hi Oto-san,
I like to paddle californian rivers someday. I have friends here who's moved from LA. His partner studied in the UC Davis.

I added your weblog as a favorite link in my blog.
Hope you have good kayaking this year!
