NF American (Chamberlain falls, IV)

I paddle Chamberlain falls run of North Fork of American river for three to five times a year. It is 4.8 mile class IV run, easy accessible from Sacramento. When I could not find people to kayak with, I used to come here and find people to paddle. I mean, here is a very popular run. Also, our group had let unknown people join us. Because there is no dam in the upstream, the spring flow is stable and runnable from the begining rainy season in Nov or Dec through June. More info at American River North Fork Chamberlain Run.

In spring, lots of beautiful flowers bloom on the hillside to takeout.

Upstream view from the takeout bridge. It looks like almost Heaven for paddlers.

One of nice class IV rapids.

Some outfitters organize the commercial rafting trips.

The tongue. Seven(or eight?)-foot drop.

Rafters play going through a tunnel underneath the room-size rock in the Shirttail creek. I have not done it, because the play looks scary.

The Bogus Thunder, the hardest rapid of this run.
